Overview
This course provides architects and design professionals with an in-depth introduction to thin and lightweight manufactured stone veneer systems, including their composition, manufacturing processes, performance characteristics, and appropriate applications in modern building design. Participants will explore a range of veneer systems—including dry-cast, wet-cast, thin-adhered, rainscreen, and lightweight panelized solutions—and examine how these technologies contribute to improved constructability, reduced structural demands, and more efficient installation practices.
Learning Focus
The course reviews key considerations for integrating manufactured stone veneer into wall assemblies, with emphasis on moisture management, attachment methods, detailing strategies, and compliance with current building codes and fire performance requirements, including NFPA 285. Best practices for specification and installation will also be discussed to support long-term durability and performance.
Comparative Cladding Analysis
In addition, the course compares manufactured stone veneer systems with alternative exterior cladding materials such as GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete), FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer), and EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems). Participants will gain insight into evaluating these systems based on cost, aesthetics, installation efficiency, maintenance, and lifecycle performance.
