Standard Backer Rod

Standard backer rod is an ideal non-absorbent compressible material inserted into a joint to control sealant depth. It creates a backstop to allow for proper sealant tooling. Backer rod is commonly used in glazing operations, window and door applications, expansion joints, curtain wall joints, partitions, log constructions, pavement joints and repair, and precast units and copings among many other job applications.

Standard backer rod is an extruded round, closed-cell, low-density polyethylene foam material with skin-like outer texture. It is highly flexible and compressible for easy installation; however, it is important to make sure that one does not puncture, stretch, or overly compress backer rod.

Soft Backer Rod

Soft backer rod is a soft, gray, pliable non-gassing backup material inserted into an expansion or contraction joint to control sealant depth, create a backstop to allow for proper sealant tooling, ensure sealant adhesion to joint surfaces only, and yield a proper bond break between backup material and sealant.

Soft backer rod is particularly well suited for specialty applications where standard backer rods are not appropriate. Soft backer rod is ideal in irregular joint applications where self-leveling, flowable sealants are employed. Soft backer rod is also recommended for use with sealants where bubbling concerns are critical. It is compatible with all know cold-applied sealants including butyl, polysulfide, acrylic, polyurethane, and silicone.

Soft backer rod may be used in place of most standard backer rod applications or as a temporary joint seal.

Open Cell Backer Rod

Open-cell backer rod is an ideal non-gassing backup material, which is inserted into construction and pavement joints to control sealant depth, create a backstop to allow for proper sealant tooling and configuration, and allow for proper sealant airing and yield a proper bond breaker.

Open-cell backer rod is ideal for non-uniform joint sizes and is commonly used in expansion and contraction joints, window glazing, curtain wall construction partitions, precast assemblies and copings, parking decks, bridge construction, and more.

Open-cell backer rod, an inert material, is compatible physically and chemically with virtually all known hot-pour and cold-applied sealants including silicone and asphalt.

Hot Backer Rod

Hot backer rod is an ideal, non-absorbent, compressible backup material inserted into a joint to control sealant depth and create a backstop to allow for proper sealant tooling, allow for proper sealant wetting of the joint surfaces, and yield proper bond breaker between the backup material and sealant.

Hot backer rod is a backstop material for most hot-pour sealants used to fill contraction and expansion joints of concrete highways, runways, driveways, and parking lots. It is compatible with most rubber-asphalt and coal tar-rubber polymer thermoplastic compounds.

SOF® Rod is a bi-cellular polyethylene foam backer rod product. It is extremely flexible and can be used with cold-applied sealants. SOF Rod is non-gassing to prevent sealants from bubbling and failure. It is available in 3/8” to 4” diameter.

HBR® is a closed-cell, polyethylene foam backer rod joint filler that is used as a backing material for elastomeric and other cold-applied sealants. It helps the sealant assume the optimum shape to prolong service life and acts as a barrier to the flow of sealant through the joint. It will not absorb water and is available in ¼” to 6” diameter.

HBR XL is a cross-linked high temperature foam backer rod joint filler. It is commonly used with hot-pour sealants up to 410 degrees F. HBR XL is white in color and available sizes from 3/8” to 2” in diameter.

OCFoam™ is an open-cell polyurethane foam backer rod that is used in window glazing and other applications that require polyurethane sealants. It is available in yellow or black color and sizes from 3/8” to 2” diameter.

Non-Crosslink Polyethylene is a closed cell foam that is available in three colors — black, gray or white. It can be used in nearly all standard concrete construction applications and is widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial construction.

Extruded from high-quality polyethylene foam, non-crosslink polyethylene is very flexible and can be used around curves or columns without breaking. It is approximately 10 times lighter than traditional expansion joint products. With near-zero water absorption, it will not rot out of the joint over time. A peel-off strip is standard on each roll but can be special ordered without.

Installation is easy — no special equipment is required. Non-crosslink polyethylene can be installed using spray adhesive, mechanical fasteners, or even just the smack of a hammer. The peel-off strip can face up or down depending on whether or not the joint will be sealed. If the joint will be sealed, utilize the peel-top feature to create the sealant cavity.

Sill Seal is a non-crosslink polyethylene foam that can be used as a barrier seal around windows and between wood framing and concrete walls. It is very similar to regular non-crosslink polyethylene foam, but does not come with a peel-off strip.

Crosslink polyethylene foam is an expansion joint material extruded from high quality, closed-cell polyethylene foam. It provides all of the same reliable characteristics of standard non-crosslink polyethylene foam, but is compatible with a broader range of solvents and hot applied sealants.

Crosslink polyethylene foam expansion joint filler can be used in all standard concrete construction applications, including highways, runways, parking garages, driveways, sidewalks, and floor slabs. In addition, it can be used as a buffer between dissimilar materials such as columns, manhole covers, and adjacent constructions.

Rigid Polypropylene Foam Expansion Joint Filler

EXR350 is a closed cell, flexible polypropylene foam used in concrete construction for expansion joint filler. EXR350 fully complies with ASTM D8139-17.

EXR350 Rigid expansion joint filler can be used in all standard concrete construction. From residential patios and aprons to DOT specified highway requirements.

EXR350 gives you all the benefits of a flexible polyethylene foam expansion joint roll, but with the rigidity of a board material. It is lightweight, chemical resistant, UV stable and flexible enough to be formed around a radius without cracking. It does not absorb water which allows it to far outlast traditional materials.

Neoprene sponge expansion joint filler is primarily used for masonry expansion joints for brick and block. Neoprene meets and exceeds all ASTM-D-1056 specifications for closed cell sponge neoprene expansion joints in residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

Neoprene sponge helps prevent clogging of expansion joints with mortar and is the accepted material for brick and block expansion joint fillers. Neoprene sponge can be custom cut for your job site needs and is available with or without Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA).

Notable features of standard grade neoprene sponge include: A high quality, closed-cell neoprene sponge rubber, compatible with PSA and can be ordered with or without it, and available in 50' rolls or flat strips depending on size. It is very flexible which means it will not break or crack when used in masonry joints. It can be easily cut and handled on any job site making it an economical choice.

DK Series neoprene sponge is a neoprene/EPDM/polymeric blend that will meet approximately 80% of all the specifications contractors, architects, and engineers require.

Notable features of DK series neoprene sponge include: DK series neoprene sponge is the only full line of ASTM SCE 41 through SCE 45 that is listed to UL94HF-1 and Canadian Fire Standard CAN/CAS C2.2 No. 017-92. It meets a multitude of ASTM, government, and automotive specifications. Ideal for many applications due to the proprietary blend of Neoprene, EPDM and other polymeric materials.

Rebonded rubber is formed from pieces of high-quality rubber that is securely bonded together with resin. It is highly resilient, will compress with little extrusion, and recover 90% of its original thickness. Rebonded rubber is comprised of 97% post-industrial recycled content and is made in the USA.

Rebonded rubber is a very useful and accepted form of expansion joint filler. It can be used and/or specified in almost all residential and commercial applications. Rebonded rubber is easily cut or trimmed on the job site, or if preferred, it can be ordered and delivered in job-specific, pre-cut pieces.

Rebonded rubber meets the following specifications: ASTM-D-1752, Type I; AASHTO-M-153-70, Type I; Fed. Spec. HH-F-341-F, Type II, Class A.

Solid neoprene rubber bearing pads provide for movement caused by normal expansion and contraction. They are used in many industrial machinery and heavy equipment applications. 

AASHTO Grade Solid Neoprene Rubber Bearing Pads provide for a uniform transfer of load from beam to structure. They permit rotation at the bearing point due to deflection or misalignment. They absorb vibration and prevent sound transfer while reducing the destructive action of vibration between movable and stationary members. AASHTO grade solid neoprene rubber bearing pads are used extensively in bridge structures and pre-stressed and precast concrete buildings.

Standard cork expansion joint material is produced from clean, selected granulated cork that is bonded together securely with an insoluble resin. Standard cork is suggested for use where it is essential that the joints be kept sealed at all times such as in wastewater treatment plants, floodwalls, spillways, filtration plants, and numerous other commercial and industrial applications.

Polysulfide-Modified Epoxy Novolac

The Westec Epoxy Gel 151 System is a multi-functional polymer epoxy formulated to provide maximum chemical resistance to Sulfuric Acid and other aggressive chemicals. Micro fillers and epoxy Novolac resin are combined with special “stress-reliving” additives to provide a durable and concrete compatible surfacing.

  The Westec Epoxy Gel 151 was designed specifically to complement the Westec® retrofit waterstop. Water Swellable Sealant

Swellstop is a butyl polymer based sealant tape.

• Swellstop is a water-swellable, waterproofing sealant designed for use on many types of poured-in-place and below grade precast concrete applications.
• On exposure to water it will begin to swell to seal any exposed gaps in concrete joints. Swellstop has excellent adhesion to clean, dry concrete. It is specifically intended for non-moving joints. It features all weather application and is engineered for use under most temperature conditions.
• Swellstop stays flexible in cold weather without shrinking or hardening and does not require heating for application. In hot weather, Swellstop remains pliable and does not become spongy.

Leakmaster LV-Z is a single component water-swelling sealant with excellent and unique properties. Its development was based on C.I. Takiron technology and long experience in waterswelling sealants. Leakmaster may be applied in locations where conventional solid sealants cannot be easily applied. This includes irregular shaped joints, rough surfaces, odd penetrations, etc. After curing, Leakmaster has excellent physical properties. The rubber-like elasticity of the material and expansion characteristics create an effective watertight seal.

Leakmaster-LV-Z is a single-component water swelling sealant. 

• Easy Application - as a moisture cure one component type water-swelling, general-use caulking guns can be used as with conventional sealants.

Mastic Waterstop

Lockstop Waterstop is a strip-applied mastic waterstop for nonmoving concrete joints. When properly installed using Lockstop Primer Adhesive, Lockstop creates a watertight seal between concrete surfaces. Lockstop does not swell or create any internal joint pressures and requires minimum concrete coverage.

Lockstop’s structural integrity conforms well to the underlying substrate and exhibits self healing properties. Unlike hydrophilic waterstop products, Lockstop will not expand when subjected to moisture and can be installed in nearly all weather conditions and temperatures.

SikaFuko® VT-1 is a re-injectable hose for sealing various construction and connection joints in watertight concrete structures.
